There have been many memorable moments in American automotive history that brought smiles to millions of Americans’ faces. JDM Civic Type R was introduced in the United States in 2017. This was a highlight for Honda10 fans. Although Toyota made a big splash with the announcement of the fifth generation Supra, which we reviewed and loved in 202210, it was not the same without their BMW collaboration. The Civic Type R is however everything a JDM enthusiast would want. It’s a Japanese sports car that has a turbocharger and, most importantly, it has the Type R badge, which Americans have not been able to get for decades. The Honda Type R is now available in the United States. We had the chance to take the 2023 Honda Civic Type R for a week-long spin, and we think this is the best front-wheel drive ever produced.

Thanks to Honda’s engineers, the Civic Type R received a decent bump in power. The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine will remain, but the 2023 model will get a slightly upgraded turbocharger and a more powerful exhaust system. The stock form has more power, which increases the potential for aftermarket sales. The Type R is still available in a 6-speed manual transmission. This is not a problem. The transmission was upgraded to handle the increased power. Although they didn’t have to upgrade the transmission to handle this power, Honda always puts reliability first. On paper, we have the best Civic Type R, but how does it perform on the road?

The rear taillights follow the new Civic design to a certain extent. The spoiler is the most significant change in the rear. The Type R is more serious looking with the black wing and less like a show car. Overall, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R received way more thumbs up on the road than when

Honda did a great job amplifying the note, especially since the active exhaust valve opens the exhaust at higher RPMs. The Type R is quite vicious once you get into the power band. The Type R accelerates quickly and you don’t feel any torque steer. The handling is the real highlight. The 2023 Honda Civic Type R will beat you every day. It is an engineering marvel. I couldn’t push it past comfort on public roads. I don’t think you will be able push it on track beyond my limits. The Type R’s limits are beyond most of us. The adaptive damper system ensures a smooth ride on all surfaces. Steering feels responsive and extremely engaging, while the brakes are confidently exquisite.
